Kasane is a town that has evolved from a safari stopover into one of Southern Africa’s most dynamic tourism hubs. Perched at the meeting point of Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia, Kasane occupies a unique position on the continent. It is the gateway to Chobe National Park, the starting point for journeys to Victoria Falls, and a destination where tourism, trade, culture and conservation intersect in fascinating ways.
Yet the value of Chobe extends beyond wildlife viewing. The Chobe National Park forms the foundation of a thriving tourism economy that supports guides, lodge operators, transport providers, craft vendors, restaurateurs and countless small businesses throughout the region. Just over 100 kilometres from Kasane lies Pandamatenga, Botswana’s largest commercial grain-producing area and one of the country’s most important agricultural regions. Often referred to as Botswana’s food basket, Pandamatenga highlights another dimension of the Chobe District’s economy. While Kasane welcomes visitors from across the world, Pandamatenga helps feed the nation through the production of sorghum, maize, wheat, beans and other crops.

Kasane’s strategic location has also made it one of Southern Africa’s most important crossroads. At the heart of Kasane’s appeal is the Chobe River. More than a geographical feature, it is the lifeblood of the region. Flowing along the northern boundary of Chobe National Park, the river supports one of the highest concentrations of wildlife in Africa. During the dry season, vast herds of elephants and buffalo descend on its banks, creating scenes that have become synonymous with Botswana’s safari experience. Unlike many wildlife destinations where game viewing takes place exclusively on land, Chobe offers visitors a rare perspective from the water.
