With more than three decades of experience in Botswana’s hospitality industry, Robert Kabuzu has helped shape memorable guest experiences while growing alongside one of the country’s leading hotel groups. As General Manager of Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa, he brings a wealth of operational expertise, a passion for service excellence, and a deep commitment to community-centred tourism. We sat down with him to discuss his journey, the evolving tourism landscape, and his vision for one of Chobe’s premier destinations
4. Cresta Mowana recently launched the Ku Muzi Boma as a community-focused initiative. Could you tell us more about this project and its significance to the resort and the local community? “The launch of the Ku Muzi Boma represents much more than a dining experience—it reflects our commitment to celebrating Botswana’s rich cultural heritage while creating opportunities for the local community. The initiative provides a platform for local artists, performers, and suppliers to showcase their talents and products, allowing our guests to enjoy authentic cultural experiences. It strengthens our relationship with the community, supports local economic development, and reinforces Cresta Mowana’s role as a responsible tourism partner.” This could also add and additional night in Chobe. 5. In your opinion, what role does Cresta Mowana play in promoting Botswana as a leading tourism destination, particularly within the Chobe region? “Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa plays a significant role by offering visitors an authentic gateway to the Chobe region while maintaining international hospitality standards. Our location, service, and unique experiences allow guests to enjoy the natural beauty and wildlife that Botswana is renowned for. Beyond accommodation, we actively promote sustainable tourism, support local communities, and showcase Botswana’s culture, helping position the country as a world-class destination for leisure and business travellers alike.” 6. 1. Please tell us a little about yourself and your journey with Cresta Hotels. How long have you been with the organisation, and what has your career path been to becoming General Manager of Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa? “My journey in hospitality has been driven by a passion for service excellence and creating memorable guest experiences. I joined Cresta Hotels 33 years ago and have had the privilege of growing within the organisation through various leadership roles. Each position has provided valuable learning opportunities, allowing me to strengthen my operational expertise, leadership skills, and understanding of the hospitality industry. Becoming General Manager of Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa has been both an honour and a rewarding milestone, as it allows me to lead a dedicated team while contributing to one of Botswana’s premier tourism destinations.” 2. What first sparked your passion for the tourism and hospitality industry, and what continues to inspire you in your role today? “What first attracted me to hospitality was the opportunity to positively impact people’s experiences. Hospitality is unique because every day presents an opportunity to meet people from different cultures and create lasting memories. Today, what
continues to inspire me is seeing our team deliver exceptional service, watching guests leave with unforgettable experiences, and knowing that our work contributes to Botswana’s tourism industry and local economy.” 3. Looking back on your career, what has been your proudest achievement or most memorable moment, and why does it stand out? “One of my proudest achievements has been leading teams through periods of growth and transformation while maintaining high service standards. A particularly memorable moment has been seeing projects that strengthen both the guest experience and community partnerships come to life. These achievements stand out because they demonstrate that success in hospitality is built through teamwork, resilience, and a shared commitment to excellence.” Winning the Chairmans award in Bali in 2025 was the greatest achievement of my career.
